I stained my deck with Behr's premium wood stain (acrylic)three years ago, and according to the manufacturer warranty, it will last for 5-7 years but the stain started to peeling off since the first year. The stain on the horizontal surface has all gone.

I was surprise to hear from a deck specialist that my deck wouldn't be stained right again if I don't get rid of that stubborn acrylic stain especially that is on the vertical surface.  And he even told me that he would walk away from doing the job for me since he is a perfectionist.

Does anyone have any experience with this?  And if I am going to stain the deck again, what stain would last long and easy to clean and re-stain?

I would advise anyone to stay away from this Behr's stain.085f3448-0df9-425e-95cc-0f2a1cce46bf_300.jpg

I have used similar product and didn't get the advertised result either. If you ask a professional painter he will laugh about this kind of claim because it just won't happen. Just a guess their stain was probably tested on a piece of wood in some perfect condition, like dry air and undercover for 5 years . If you work for the company please let us know this is not the case :).

Is TWP a good stain? According to the contractor, he would use TWP for the job.

TWP is my choice. I am going to stain my deck soon. There is really nothing that will last more than 2 years even a good stain. I believe for deck maintenance, you just have to choose something like TWP, that would preserve and make your wood deck look good, and something that is easy to clean and re-apply year after year or every two years.

The vertical part of your deck is not going to be stained frequently, just the horizontal part for a good stain.
